Lyric tenor, Andrzej Stec (Stetz), sings as much in opera as in concert around United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.

 

Granted a warm and vibrant voice recollecting that of his celebrated predecessor Jan Kiepura for the charisma and the beauty of interpretation, Andrzej Stec devoted himself to classical singing after years spent in theatre and dance.   During his studies in Chicago, Northwestern University exceptionally agreed to release Andrzej Stec to be engaged with Chicago Opera Theater.

 

He holds a title of Ambassador of Stalowa Wola, his native city in Poland, and Doctor of Music Performance degree from Montreal University.

 

The wide musical spectrum is a consequence of the artists love for languages and poetry, as well as his fruitful collaboration with French music specialists Jean-Eudes Vaillancourt and Rosemarie Landry.

 

His greatest achievements are the role of Arturo from Bellini’s I Puritani, Nadir from Les pêcheurs de perles, Barinkay from Die Zigeunerbaron, Tom from I.Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, Alfredo from La Traviata, Don Ottavio from Don Giovanni, Lucano from L’incoronazione di Poppea, Alfred from Die Fledermaus and Doctor from L.Hoiby’s contemporary opera A month in the Country.  His frequent appearances with Rochford Bach Chamber Orchestra (Chicago) and Ensemble Da Capo (Montreal), Les Mélodînes at Les-Place-des-Arts (Montréal), The International Festival of Poetry at Trois Rivières, as well as series of summer festivals (Aspen, Chautauqua, La Roche d’Hys, Villecroze, ICAV) propelled young artist to many prestigious venues.    In Chicago area, Andrzej Stec sang with Bach Chamber Orchestra, Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Music Academy International, Light Opera Works, Opera Moda and Chicago Opera Theater.  Traveling with music took Andrzej to places around Asia, Poland, France, Germany and Austria, Canada and United States.

 

Recently, Andrzej Stec gained a great success in Montreal as Romeo from Gounod’s Romeo and Juliette, and ‘triumphed’ in Cleveland as Shepherd from Szymanowski’s King Roger:  “the animal magnetism Stec exuded was completely riveting whenever he was onstage”.  –Daniel Hathaway. In the spirit of concerts through North America and Poland to underline the 200-year anniversary of F. Chopin and R. Schumann, Andrzej Stec was invited to celebrate Debussy’s 150th anniversary in Montreal’s impressionistic concert series that climax with the role of Pelleas in “Pelléas et Mélisande”, and a world premiere of “Diane au Bois” where he will incarnate the role of Eros.
