Review:
“King Roger’ a triumph for Opera Circle”
“…the principals were exceptional champions for Szymanowski.”
“The composer originally intended to title the opera “The Shepherd,” an understandable possibility considering the character’s prominence and the charisma and ringing vocalism tenor Andrzej Stec brought to the role. Dressed in white and moving lightly on his feet, Stec played the ethereal shepherd as a Pied Piper of Love who could easily persuade the kingdom to adopt his hedonistic spirituality.”
“… and Stec’s clear, ringing tenor complemented each other perfectly. And the animal magnetism Stec exuded was completely riveting whenever he was onstage. His background in dance and his eye makeup enhanced his characterization of the Shepherd as an androgynous creature who could seize the attention of both sexes.”

“Arturo, the tenor role, poses its own vocal challenges, and Andrzej Stec met most of them vibrantly… …Stec’s bright tenor embraced the ardent and hushed phrases with equal refinement”. - Donald Rosenberg, The Plain Dealer
